Black Men + Entrepreneurship

It's Black History Month and we want to focus on black men and their impact as business owners in our community. There is so much negative imagery around black men in America but we know that they are so much more. Black man are fathers, leaders, community servants, voters, and business owners.

In conjunction with MIA Media Group, the Chamber will host a panel discussion on the cultural, social, and economic impact of black men in business. In the process, we will get to know some local business owners.

The panel will feature three individuals:

Mark Kent , CEO Care Management LLC.

Mark Kent has experience as an entrepreneur and for the past ten years has been a Fortune 100 company executive. Mark is a nurse by training with a Master’s in Business Administration from Purdue University, Six-Sigma training at the University of Michigan, and recognized as a Six Sigma Master Black Belt by the American Society for Quality. He is also both a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a Fellow of the Medical Group Management Association. Aside from this book he has published several articles on organizational behavior and healthcare management, is a frequent speaker on health care matters, and has served on the boards of several local and national charities. Additionally, Mark founded the Foster Children’s United Society, a private not-for-profit foundation in which assists foster children.

Tony Brunson, Owner of Anthony Brunson, P.A.

Anthony “Tony” Brunson is the CEO of Anthony Brunson P.A. Tony is a graduate of Jackson State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting. He also attended Dartmouth College where he completed his fellowship in the Minority Business Enterprise Program. Tony has over three decades of public accounting experience. Prior to owning his own company, Tony worked at Sharpton Brunson & Company as a partner in 1985, was an audit manager at Price Waterhouse.

Tony serves / has served as President, Chairman or Treasurer of the following organizations:

  • National Association of Black Accountants, Miami Chapter
  • Miami-Dade Housing & Finance Authority
  • United Home Care Services
  • Miami-Dade Community Foundation
  • Women in Distress
  • Broward Community Foundation
  • Miami Coalition for the Homeless
  • Broward Behavior Health Care Coalition

Dexter Bridgeman, Founder of MIA Media Group.

Dexter Bridgeman started several companies and initiatives in South Florida. He founded MIA Media Group, which publishes Legacy South Florida, Legacy Miami, and MIA Magazine. He has put on award ceremonies recognizing accomplished black professionals throughout South Florida, such as the "40 Under 40 of Today and Tomorrow" and "25 Most Influential & Prominent Black Women in Business." Dexter founded BOMA, the Black Owned Media Alliance, and has organized conferences to raise the awareness of the importance and the historical role of the black media. Lastly, he served on the board of the Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce.
